Although he has spent most of his life in Florida, he has always had an affinity for winter sports, and snowboarding in particular. “I loved to ski as a kid,” he recalls, “and always looked forward to visiting my aunt in Colorado. One year I saw a guy on a snowboard, and I was totally struck by how cool it looked.”
He was able to take snowboarding lessons during that early visit to his Colorado aunt, and he took to it immediately. After that he had to wait nearly a year after that before he had another chance. What was it about snowboarding that captured the imagination of a kid from Florida?
“It was seeing those awesome tricks and jumps those guys were doing,” he said, recalling his first experience with snowboarding in Colorado. “I’d never seen anything like it. It just seemed so much better than skiing.” The hardest thing about his first lessons, he says, was getting used to falling. “That’s all I seemed to do, the first couple of days,” he says. After that he got his balance and was much more stable. And Chad Boulter has enjoyed snowboarding a couple of times each year, ever since.
